Nov. 6, 2012
Having already voted early the week before, on election day 2012 I took my dog Junie on a trip across the state, driving and hiking to and from a rugged and spectacular location along the Little Missouri River in the Arkansas Ouachitas. I timed our trip to arrive at Winding Stairs in the late afternoon when the sunlight would be screaming in low from the west and dropping little color bombs across a hillside already pocked with the colors of autumn.
The light raids lasted for maybe an hour and a half, during which time I tried to capture as many different points of view as I could of this unique landscape, although to tell you the truth I almost could have followed Junie's example and stretched out on a sandy spot for a little snooze. Age is catching up a little with both of us, I guess.
